Printrbot Simple 2014 3D Printer Kit, PLA Filament, 1.75mm Ubis Hot End, 4″ x 4″ x 4″ Build Volume

The Printrbot Simple 2014 3D printer kit has an open platform with an aluminum print bed and a frame constructed of machined aluminum and laser-cut birch wood for fabricating objects to maximum dimensions of 4 x 4 x 4 inches/100 x 100 x 100 mm (H x W x D) using PLA (polylactic acid) thermoplastic filament. The printer, which requires assembly, has a vertical resolution of 100 microns (0.10 mm) and includes a direct drive 6061 aluminum extruder with a shrouded cooling fan and an Ubis hot end that accepts 1.75 mm PLA filament. The unheated 6061 aluminum print bed has a matte finish and provides a level build surface that will not warp. The printer is commanded through the provided micro USB cable using G-code numerical control instructions. An SD memory card slot can store G-code instructions on a memory card (sold separately) for operation without a connection to a computer. It can be used with 3D printer management software packages (sold separately). The frame is made of laser-cut birch wood. Machined aluminum axis rods with linear bearings and injection molded gears help ensure precise movement. The size 17 stepper motors meet the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) standard ICS 16-2001. The printer comes with a sample spool of PLA filament.

  1. Perfect entry level printer When friends ask me what a good entry-level 3D printer is, this is what I recommend this kit if they are comfortable doing the assembly. It’s an amazing printer for the price, the the guy who runs the company is really nice and supports his customers. It’s an easy weekend project to assemble. You can also get the assembled version for $100 more, which is also a great deal.This version has some nice improvements over the 2013 kit – a metal print bed and a metal extruder. Amazing…

Great for learning My son received for late Christmas.It required some thinking since parts don’t match instructions perfectly.The software parameters need some tweaking but after some google searches and experiments some fantastic prints came out. Don’t give up if you don’t first succeed. Amazing how such a kit performs so well. Great time to spend together parent and child. Expect one or two days to assemble and another few days to get good prints. Definitely not as good as professional prints…

Printrbot Simple = Simply Not for Me Overall decent instructions on how to put the kit together, other than a few errors when describing parts, some weak engineering solutions (but also some good) with slow customer support.If you choose this kit I will tell you what step one should really be, remove the electronics board and plug in the USB cord, if nothing lights up with just the USB plugged in you more than likely have a defective board just like I received, except that was something like step 78 for me.
